Our Little Kindergartner

Ashley began Kindergarten this year! As much as we were sad to realize how quickly she had grown up, we also were very excited about what was to come in future!  We thought Ashley would be nervous and/or scared to start school but this kid was VERY ready to start school and we were so happy that her Preschool teachers prepped her like they did because she knew exactly what to expect. We actually had a "bonus year" with her since her birthday was only 11 days past the cut off.

Her first day of school was on August 27th. She had her "Meet the Teacher" night on the 23rd and we love her teacher. Her name is Mrs. Sauder.  We got a postcard in the mail the week before school started from her teacher telling her that she was excited to meet her!  Ash was thrilled!!

So her first day started bright and early. Paul had to take Corey to Judi's a little earlier and then he met up with us at the school. We planned to have Ashley there early to eat breakfast in the cafeteria.  I took her picture in front of the door before we left and I had so many tears in my eyes because I couldn't help but take a mental snapshot because I had prepped myself for this moment ever since she was a baby.  She thankfully didn't notice the tears since she was so excited to get there.

Once Paul met us in the parking lot, we walked together into the school and they had the High School marching band drum section playing for all the kids getting them all pumped up! It was so much fun!!  Ashley loved it.  We sat with her in the cafeteria while she ate breakfast and then before you knew it, her teacher was there.

All the Kindergarten parents were just as emotional as we were.  It was hard to see our babies go. Ashley held Mrs. Sauder's hand as she walked down the hall. She looked back at us with tears in her eyes, but remained strong and brave. She kept her chin up and walked on. We were so proud of her.

It was quite the emotional morning so thankfully the school had a PTA welcome breakfast in the library for all the new parents.  It was nice to get to know the Principal as well as some other staff members at Oak Meadow. It helped to take our mind off of being sad.

Later that day, I met up with Ashley for lunch. I volunteered at the Meet the Teacher night to help the kids get through the lunch line for the first time. It was nice to have lunch with her and see how the first part of her day was.  She already made friends and was quite happy which helped me get through the rest of my workday.

So excited to have chocolate milk
All in all, it was a success and we can't be more proud of our sweet little girl beginning her "school career".
