Big Girl Room

Over the last several weeks, Paul and I have been transforming Ashley's nursery into a Big Girl Room. It's been not only a big change physically for us, but an even bigger change emotionally. We know that our almost 2 and a half year old has outgrown her barnyard animals nursery, but it is really hard to believe that now she ready for flowers and butterflies. Just even the thought of a little butterfly starts to bring tears to my eyes because it reminds me that one day she will flutter away on her own. Anywho, even though it's been sad, it's been really fun too! The springboard for getting the room done recently was that our generous friends, Doug and Deann, were moving to a new house. They were getting their 3 year old a twin bed and offered to let us borrow the toddler bed.

We have changed her wall color from red (barn theme) to a color called "Macaroni." It truly is the the color of pasta after it's been boiled. And have added a flower theme. We picked out her new toddler bedspread and built the room around it. The color of bedspread has pink, purple, yellow and green. Paul painted the armoire white that we had in the office. Her armoire that we purchased for her nursery really was a piece of crap, and falling apart. A real safety hazard! We added a little TV (from my college days) inside the armoire to play her DVDs. It looks so cute!

Friday night was her last night in her crib. Paul took it down on Saturday morning after lots and lots of pictures! Once the toddler bed was set up, Ashley jumped right in. She was so excited! She loves it. Saturday night we had a big slumber party in her bedroom. Paul and I along with dogs were spread out on her floor, while Ashley slept in her big girl bed. She woke up Sunday morning and said "We made it!" She was so proud of herself for sleeping through the night in her bed.
